LegalTerms & Conditions
Last updated: 2026. These terms cover both this website and the work we carry out for you.
These terms apply when you use this website and when you accept a quote from us. Please read them before you book work. If anything here is unclear, ask us before you accept — we would rather explain it up front than argue about it later.
1. Who you are contracting with
This website is operated by Zays Woodworks & Maintenance (Pty) Ltd, a private company registered in South Africa, trading as Zay’s Woodworks & Maintenance.
- Directors: Sulaimaan Sedick and Zain Nezar
- Email: info@zayswoodworks.co.za
- Telephone / WhatsApp: 061 753 2574 and 084 689 7763
- Area of operation: Cape Town and surrounds, South Africa
These details are published to meet section 43 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002.
2. Using this website
This site is here to show you what we do and to let you reach us. It is information, not an offer. Nothing on it is a binding quote, and the photographs shown are examples of the type of work we do rather than a guarantee that your job will look identical.
You may not copy the site’s text, photographs or layout for your own commercial use without our permission. You may of course save, print or share pages for your own purposes.
We try to keep the site accurate and available, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
3. Quotes
Quotes are free in Mitchells Plain and Strandfontein. Outside those areas we charge a call-out fee based on how far we have to travel; we will tell you what that fee is before we come out, and you are free to decline. For anything more than a small repair we measure in person before quoting rather than pricing off a photograph.
A quote is valid for the period stated on it, and is based on the measurements taken and the materials specified at that time. If the scope, the measurements or the material prices change, the quote changes with them and we will tell you before doing the work.
A contract between us only comes into existence when you accept a written quote and we confirm acceptance.
4. Payment for materials and hardware
To secure your materials and officially get your project onto our production schedule, we kindly request upfront payment for the hardware and material costs listed on your quote. Once received, we will immediately place the orders and confirm your start date.
In other words: the materials portion of your quote is payable before we begin. We order your materials as soon as it clears and confirm your start date at the same time. Until that payment is received, no materials are ordered and no start date is held.
The balance — the labour and installation portion — is payable as set out on your quote.
Payment is by EFT to the account shown on your quote or invoice. We will never send you new banking details by email or WhatsApp without confirming them with you by phone first. If you receive a message claiming our account has changed, phone us on 061 753 2574 before paying anything.
5. Materials
Board, finishes, handles, hinges and runners are agreed in writing before anything is cut. Where a specified item is discontinued or out of stock, we will offer the closest equivalent and confirm any price difference with you before proceeding.
Timber and board are natural and manufactured products. Slight variation in grain, tone and finish between samples, batches and the installed result is normal and is not a defect.
You may supply your own materials instead. If you do, we charge for the labour only. We are happy to fit materials you have bought, but we cannot warrant materials we did not supply, and we cannot be responsible for shortfalls or defects in them.
6. Scheduling and timelines
We confirm a start date once the materials payment has cleared. Timelines depend on the size of the job and on supplier lead times, and we give you a completion date in writing with your quote.
We will tell you as soon as we know if a date is going to move. Delays caused by supplier shortages, load shedding, weather on exterior work, or access problems at your property are outside our control and may shift a completion date.
7. Access to your property
You agree to give us safe and reasonable access to the work area on the agreed dates, along with power and water where the work needs it. Please clear the area of belongings before we arrive, or tell us in advance if you need us to move things so we can price it in.
Where a body corporate, landlord or estate requires permission or restricts working hours, arranging that is your responsibility. Standing time caused by us not being able to get in may be charged.
8. Changes to the job
If you want something added or changed once work has started, we will price it and confirm it with you in writing before doing it. Changes may affect both the price and the completion date.
9. Completion and defects
On completion we will walk the work with you. Please raise anything you are not happy with at that point, or in writing as soon as possible afterwards, so we can put it right.
We clean up after ourselves — off-cuts, dust and packaging leave with us.
10. Workmanship guarantee
We guarantee our workmanship for 90 days from the date of installation. If something goes wrong with your cupboards in that period, tell us and we will come out and put it right at no charge to you.
This covers our workmanship. It does not cover fair wear and tear, misuse or accidental damage, water damage, movement in the building itself, or materials you supplied yourself.
11. Your rights as a consumer
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. In particular, you are entitled to goods and services of a reasonable quality, and to have defective work put right.
Please note that built-in cupboards, custom furniture and other items made to your own specification are goods made to order. They are cut to your measurements and cannot be resold, so the Act’s general right to return goods simply because you have changed your mind does not apply to them. This does not affect your rights where work is defective or not as agreed.
12. Cancellation
If you cancel after we have ordered materials, the materials payment covers goods already bought for your job and is not refundable, though any materials that can be returned to the supplier will be credited back to you less any restocking fee the supplier charges.
If we have to cancel, we will refund any amount you have paid for work not yet done and materials not yet ordered.
13. Liability
We carry out our work with reasonable skill and care, and we take responsibility for damage we actually cause. We are not liable for pre-existing defects in your property, for problems arising from the condition of the structure we are fixing to, or for indirect losses such as lost income or the cost of alternative accommodation.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or liability under the Consumer Protection Act.
14. Complaints
If something goes wrong, tell us first — email info@zayswoodworks.co.za or WhatsApp 061 753 2574. We would far rather fix it than have you unhappy. If we cannot resolve it between us, you may refer the matter to the National Consumer Commission.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and any dispute will be dealt with in a South African court with jurisdiction.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your job is the one published when you accepted your quote. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed.
